Property & Evidence Unit
The Property and Evidence Unit is responsible
for the receipt, documentation, storage and tracking
of all evidence, found and safekeeping property.
Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday. We request that an appointment
is made by calling 509-575-6221 prior to any release
of property. Your case number and photo identification
are required for the return of your property.
If you wish to have another person recover your
property for you, a notarized statement will be
required.
To retrieve evidentiary property that has
been processed and being held by the Yakima
Police Department, you will need first to contact
the assigned detective who is responsible for
your case. The detective must authorize the
release of all evidence maintained by the Property & Evidence
Unit.
Safekeeping or found property will be held by
the department for 60 days. If the owner is known,
a letter will be mailed to the owner requiring
a response. Found /safekeeping items are considered
abandoned after 60 days and are subject to destruction,
donation to charity, or auction per state law.
Items to be auctioned are submitted to a Police
auction website, http://www.propertyroom.com/.
