YPD Honor Guard
The Yakima Police Department Honor Guard was established
in 2004 and is dedicated to those men and women that served
before us with great sacrifice and commitment to the safety
and protection of all citizens.
Officers Henyan and Seely of the Yakima Police Department
trained with the United States Marine Corps Ceremonial
Unit in Washington D.C. for one week and train current
members. The Yakima Police Department Honor Guard is currently
comprised of thirteen volunteer officers who train regularly.
Honor Guard members are required to be proficient in drill,
flag folding, casket guard, presentation of colors, parade
march and other duties appropriate to their position. The
unit consists of a Color Guard, Rifle Party ( 3 volleys
of 7), and casket bearers. The Honor Guard is also in the
process of forming a "spinning rifle team." The Honor Guard
has created and organizes the annual ceremony for law enforcement
officers killed in the line of duty. The unit is available
for parades, funerals, civic events, or as otherwise directed
by the chief of police.
The unit generally attends functions with two guards
(rifle bearers) and two color bearers. Flags borne by the
unit include the National Standard, and the State of Washington
colors.
