The Yakima Police Explorer Post 275 is part of a national program for young men and women ages 16-20.  The program is designed to give highly qualified and motivated individuals who have an interest in law enforcement firsthand experience and training in law enforcement skills and topics.  The Post meets weekly for training and attends local, state and national events where they train and showcase their abilities.  Details include traffic control, community events, security details, patrol assistance, and emergency response to major crime events.  Explorers are granted ride along with Yakima Police Officers frequently to allow them to see how real life police work occurs.  Explorers are issued a uniform and attend a state basic training academy designed for explorers.
