Criminal Investigations Division
The personnel assigned to this division are responsible for criminal
investigation, case preparation and apprehension of criminal
offenders, and the intelligence gathering activities of the
Police Department.
A Police Captain commands this division, with operational
supervision provided by Police Sergeants. The Police Officers
assigned to this division are responsible for investigating
all major crimes against persons and property, with special
emphasis on crimes involving sexual assault, child abuse,
domestic violence, gang-related offenses and narcotics crimes.
A detective in this division monitors and levels sex offenders
living in the city limits.

This division also manages the officers assigned to investigate
narcotics crimes. They work closely with the Drug Enforcement
Administration's multi-agency task force, which, because
of its greater resources and interstate jurisdiction, is
able to target upper level narcotics traffickers.
The two Evidence Technicians assigned to this division
are responsible for the collection and examination of latent
and comparison fingerprints for the purpose of identifying
known and unknown criminal offenders. In addition, these
personnel perform field collection of forensic evidence
at the scene of major crimes.
Fleet Maintenance is also a responsibility of this division
and the employee assigned to this function is responsible
for first line maintenance, and coordination of major maintenance
and repairs, of the Department's first-response patrol fleet,
special purpose, and detective vehicles, as well as travel
vehicles used by all City Departments.
